EVANSTON, Ill. - Cleveland State freshman Jonathan Bibb made a huge splash in his collegiate debut, claiming the gold medal in men's epee at the Remenyik Invitational in Evanston, Ill. Hosted by Northwestern over the weekend (Oct. 28-29), the competition was the first of the season for the Vikings.

"Jonathan came out of nowhere with an amazing performance," CSU head coach Jim Sager said. "This was a pretty strong showing for us at a big event and a great way to start the season. I couldn't be happier with our performance this weekend."

Bibb defeated 95 other competitors to claim the top spot. In other action, freshman Liran Gross finished sixth in men's saber and seventh in foil, while junior Leigh Pendergrass was seventh in women's foil.

The men's and women's fencing teams are in action for the second consecutive weekend as they travel to University Park, Pa. for the Garret Penn State Open on Nov. 4-5. The event features some of the top fencers from the East and Midwest. The Vikings will be taking their full contingent of men's and women's starters to the competition.
