EVANSTON, Ill. - The Cleveland State men's and women's fencing teams closed out the regular season over the weekend at the Northwestern Duals (Feb. 24-25). The men's squad posted a 5-4 record against stiff competition to improve to 25-11 on the year and remain third in the Midwest, while the women went 1-10 and are now 15-18.

On the men's side, freshman Liran Gross went 22-5 in foil, while sophomore Andy Snell was a perfect 11-0 in epee on Sunday. The highlight of the weekend came when the men rallied from 9-0 and 12-3 deficits to upend UNC, 14-13. In women's action, senior Pam Marvinney and freshman Hannah Simms both went 2-1 against Northwestern, one of the nation's top teams.

"The comeback against North Carolina was a fantastic victory and a great way to end the regular season," head coach Jim Sager said. "I think we're in position to do good things this weekend, both as a team and individually."

Cleveland State kicks off the postseason this week with a trip to Notre Dame for the Midwest Conference Championships on Mar. 3-4. The event is the first step on the road to the NCAA Championships.
