UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Cleveland State men's and women's fencing teams returned to action on Saturday at the Penn State Duals following a seven week layoff for the holidays. The men's squad posted a 1-4 mark at the duals, while the women's team went 0-5.

"I felt that we were a little rusty because we had a very limited amount of practices after the holiday break," head coach Jim Sager said. "We were able to face several quality teams, including defending national champion Penn State, and really got a chance to see where we are at as a team."

The men's squad posted a 16-11 victory over Haverford, but dropped decisions to Duke (22-5), Penn State (27-0), Drew (16-11) and Penn (22-5).

The women's team fell to Drew (18-9), Duke (27-0), Haverford (17-10), Penn (25-2) and Penn State (26-1).

Liran Gross once again led the men's team as he tallied a 9-4 mark with the foil to improve his season record to 43-6. Shawn Wright also performed well, finishing 8-6 with the epee.

Both teams will be back in action on Feb. 2-3 when they compete at the Northwestern Duals.
