Jesse Ndjeka Qualifies for NCAA Fencing National Championship in Men’s Epee

Cleveland, OH-Senior Jesse Ndjeka is headed to the NCAA Fencing National Championship, continuing a run of incredible success throughout the past few weeks.

Ndjeka qualified by placing sixth this past weekend in the men's epee competition at the Midwest Regional in Detroit, MI. Ndjeka is one of 24 fencers across the country who will compete for the national title in men's epee. He finished with a 6-5 record in the regional round.

"Being a direct qualifier from the Midwest Region is foremost a testament to Jesse's drive, planning, and his decision about a month ago he wanted to qualify," said Head Coach Jennifer Oldham. "The support of his teammates and of the greater Cleveland fencing community are also key ingredients to his success this season.  I look forward to seeing what he brings to Columbus."

Ndjeka won the school's first-ever Central Collegiate Fencing Conference individual championship in taking home the men's epee title three weeks ago. He was seeded third in the eight-man bracket and won three consecutive matches to take home the title.

Ndjeka's run of success began at the Northwestern Duals just over a month ago. He finished with a 7-2 record against stiff competition on the day, which helped the men's epee squad finish with a winning record overall.

The Championship is scheduled to take place March 23-24 at French Field House in Columbus, OH. The men's epee competition will consist of five total rounds, with the first three rounds taking place on Saturday, March 23 starting at 9:00 a.m. and the final two rounds on Sunday, March 24 at 9 a.m. Should he advance through the preliminary rounds, the semifinal and championship bouts begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
