Cleveland State Fencing Set to Compete in Central Colllegiate Fencing Championships

Columbus, OH-The Cleveland State fencing teams are gearing up for the Central Collegiate Fencing Championships, set to take place tomorrow in Columbus hosted by Ohio State.

The tournament consists of a team component as well as an individual component. The team competition takes place on Saturday, with a round-robin format with each team competing in a dual meet against all of the other participating teams. There will be five men's teams and seven women's teams competing.

The Vikings are seeded second on the men's side and third on the women's side. The men will battle the host Buckeyes, as well as Wayne State, Lawrence and Detroit Mercy. On the women's side, CSU will also take on Ohio State, as well as Detroit Mercy, Denison, Wayne State, Lawrence, and Northwestern. OSU is the top seed on both sides.

The individual portion of the competition takes place Sunday, with competitors matching up in each of the three weapons on the men's and women's side. The first two rounds consist of pool play, which helps to reduce the field down to eight for a bracket style finish.

Round one gets underway tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. Fans can follow along on CSU Fencing social media channels for updates throughout the weekend.
