Cleveland State Fencing Wraps Up Day 1 at Northwestern Duals

Evanston, IL-The Cleveland State Fencing teams competed at the Northwestern Duals on Saturday. 

The Men finished 2-2 on the day, highlighted by a win over host Northwestern in the 5th round. The women finished 1-4 but dominated in their only win of the day. 

Both teams got off to slow starts, dropping their first two matches. The men picked up the first win of the day in Round 5, winning 15 of the first 18 matches to down Northwestern. 

The men followed with a 17-10 win over Wayne State to close the day, winning all three weapons to finish even for the day. 

The women dropped their first four matches but responded with a victory in the last match of the day. Cleveland State won in a shutout over Fairleigh Dickinson, 24-0. 

The two-day competition continues tomorrow, with both teams set to fence against several opponents over seven rounds.
