CSU Men Show Resilience in Netting Wins at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Cleveland State University fencing team concluded a busy weekend of dual competition Sunday at the Vassar Invitational inside Walker Field House.

The CSU men posted a 2-2 record on the day, splitting matchups with the host Brewers and Drew. The CSU women were 0-2 on the day, dropping a pair of contests against the host school.

The CSU men lost to Vassar, 17-10, and Drew, 16-11, to begin the day. However, the Vikings regrouped after lunch, posting four-point improvements against both foes. As a result, the CSU men won a nailbiter over Vassar, 14-13, before topping Drew, 15-12.

The foil unit led the Viking men by contributing 27 victories on the day, including a three-point improvement from the first matchup with Vassar to the second. In similar fashion, the epee unit posted a three-point improvement against Drew from their first dual to their second to help CSU flip the script.

The CSU women dropped duals to Vassar by scores of 17-10 and 15-12. The saber and epee units tied by each collecting nine victories across the two duals.

Cleveland State will be right back in action this Saturday, Jan. 25, as it heads to Notre Dame's DeCicco Duals.
