Cleveland State Posts 12-0 Mark at CSU Duals

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State University fencing team was flawless Saturday as the Vikings posted a 12-0 dual mark as the program hosted the CSU Duals inside Woodling Gymnasium.

The CSU men posted a 6-0 mark while the Viking women matched their counterparts, notching six wins without a loss.

The Cleveland State men claimed victories over Denison (18-9), Michigan (18-9), Oakland (27-0), Carnegie Mellon (21-6), Case Western Reserve (20-7) and Michigan State (24-3).

The Viking women also knocked off the same set of opponents. They defeated Denison (17-10), Michigan (17-10), Oakland (24-0), Carnegie Mellon (22-2), Case Western Reserve (19-4) and Michigan State (19-8).

The win over Michigan was notable for the Viking women as the program lost to UM just under a month ago at the OSU Duals.

The foil unit led the way for the Viking men, claiming 50 of a possible 54 points on the day. The foil group for the CSU women was somehow even more efficient as they notched 52 of a possible 54 points on the day.

Cleveland State also honored Jakarri Kent in a senior recognition ceremony between rounds. Kent, who hails from Shreveport, La., was competing at home in dual competition for the final time.

CSU will be right back in action Sunday as the program hosts the John Szent-Kiraly Open with competition in all three weapon categories.
