CLEVELAND, Ohio - Freshmen Brodee Bocek and Shelbie Seeberg both won titles as the Cleveland State University fencing team hosted the 13th annual Fencers Attacking Diabetes event Saturday and Sunday inside Woodling Gymnasium.

Bocek placed first in the opening discipline of the weekend, Division II men's epee. He went 7-3 in pool play Saturday before advancing to the final with a pair of comfortable wins in direct elimination bouts. Bocek then won the title by taking down the top seed with a 15-13 victory.

Bocek finished 11th in the Division I-A men's epee event Sunday, two spots higher than he was seeded. Eric Hamdan finished in 12th place in the same event after picking up a pair of wins in pool play.

Seeberg entered the Division II women's foil event seeded fourth, but she went on to claim first place. After going 4-1 in pool play, Seeberg earned a bye in the opening bracket round before cruising to the final with an easy win. Seeberg claimed the championship by coming back to defeat the only competitor she lost to during pool play as she won the final bout, 15-10.

Freshman Dorian Pichola took fifth place in the DII women's foil event, picking up two wins in pool play.

Freshmen Abigail Barr and Karina Grossl competed in both the Division I-A and Division II women's epee events.

Barr posted a 4-1 record in D-I pool play, tying for the most wins among any competitor in that portion of the competition. After earning a bye in the opening round, she won her opening bracket bout before falling to the eventual champion, 15-12. Barr also won four more matches in the DII epee competition.

Grossl won two pool matches in both epee events and won a bracket match in the D-II competition. She finished in 11th place in the D-I event.

Cleveland State will be back in action on the first weekend of November at the Case Western Duals.
