Maltman & Pichola Commit to CSU Fencing

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State University head fencing coach Andy Tulleners announced that two student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI's) to continue their careers with the Vikings.

Claire Maltman and Dorian Pichola both signed NLI's during the current signing period to commit to CSU for the 2018-19 academic year.

Claire Maltman
Hometown: Rockford, Mich.
Fencing Club: Grand Rapids Fencing Academy
Coach: Arkadiy Sarkisov
Major: Accounting

Best Fencing Moment:
Getting a picture with an Olympic fencer, Race Imboden at a NAC. 

What you're looking forward to at CSU:
Seeing new sights, meeting new people, and growing as a person. 

Why CSU?
The team and the advisors I met with on my visit to CSU were all very kind and informative, making me feel welcomed and comfortable moving to another state. 

Hobbies:
Playing Music (piano, baritone saxophone and oboe and ukelele on the side) and baking. 

Dorian Pichola
Hometown: Rocky River, Ohio
Fencing Club: Cyrano's Place/Two Ravens
Coach: Sara Kass/Brian Stone
Major: Mechanical Engineering

Best Fencing Moment:
Making podium at state my senior year in two weapons, saber and foil. 

What you're looking forward to at CSU:
The continuation of my fencing career, meeting new people and furthering my education into a career that I'm inspired in. 

Why CSU?
It has a dynamic and cohesive fencing team and a hands-on engineering program. CSU has a supportive and enriching environment for student athletes. 

Hobbies:
I'm an NHS member. I'm a certified Diversity Trainer. I've gone on two mission trips with my church youth group to rebuilding impoverished cities. I have been a varsity football cheerleader in high school, a varsity swimmer, and varsity rower. I was the fencing captain and made state podium for three years.
