Duchow Earns Five Wins Overall at 2014 NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio-  Cleveland State sophomore fencer Paul Duchow (epee) finished the weekend with five overall wins at the 2014 NCAA Fencing Championships.  He finished 23rd overall respectively.

Head Coach Andy Tulleners was pleased on his performance throughout the weekend.  "Paul (Duchow) fenced a lot better and felt more comfortable.  My expectations for him were reached.  I felt at least four to five total wins through the two days of competition is very pleasing for me and he accomplished his own goal for himself on just getting to this point at such an early time in his fencing collegiate career.  Assistant Coach John Marshall did an excellent job with Paul on preparing him on each bout and for what he has done with him all year," said a pleased Tulleners.

"It was great to have some alumni cheer Paul on at Ohio State over the weekend.  Former fencing coach Tom Nagy who was a fencer in the 80's at CSU and Lian Gross was present.  Gross fenced for CSU and went to the NCAA's in 2010.  That was great to have them with us."

Paul Duchow talked about his overall experience at the NCAA Championships.  "I am happy that I was able to expereince what its like to compete against the best fencers all across the United States.  With being only a sophomore, this was a great learning experience for me and I hope to be back next year.  It takes a lot of knowledge to compete at this level, but enjoyed every minute.  I felt I competed hard and was very proud of winning five bouts.  I was struggling with having a game plan early, but figured out a game plan and settled down.  In one of my wins, I was down 4-1 and ended up winning 5-4.  Just to be able to be in the same venue with the best fencers across the U.S. was such a humbling experience," said Duchow.
