Fencing Competed at DeCicco Duals in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind.-  The Cleveland state fencing team competed in the DeCicco Duals at Notre Dame University over the weekend.

The women were led by Christine Bocci who went 4-11 on the day.  "The women continued to gain experience while competing against three of the top four teams in the country this weekend.  It was a very challenging meet, but this young women's team gained needed experience that will lead us into a much stronger season next year," said Tulleners.

The men were 1-4 on the day with the only victory against Wayne State.  The men were led by senior Tom Bienvenu who went 8-7 for the day.  John Cuturic also had an upset against Ohio State, defeating their top saber fencer Rhys Douglas 5-0.

"The men were pretty flat today.  We had opportunities to defeat Northwestern but we did not capitalize on it.  While we had some highlights this weekend and some upsets like Cuturic's win over Douglas from OSU, it is very hard to gain momentum against such strong team's as OSU, Notre Dame and Penn State."

The Vikings are back in action on March 1st and 2nd as CSU will compete at Notre Dame at the Midwest Conference Championships.
