Cleveland State Welcomes Daniel Torres

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State University Esports program added Daniel Torres on Monday afternoon. Torres is currently a sophomore and enrolled in the computer science program.

Torres is from Cleveland, Ohio, and attended John Marshall School of Engineering. During that time, he was part of the Nasa Club and the Data Science Club.

Outside of esports, Torres was a member of the soccer team and was the captain during his senior year.

"Danny was one of the first students I spoke with after I was hired," said Director of esports PJ Farrell. "I was so impressed with his love of esports and passion for CSU.  He will make a great leader on our Valorant team this upcoming season!"

Torres is the son of Mauricio and Maria Torres.

What made you get into Esports and choose the game you play today?
"When I was a kid, I played Call of Duty Black Ops 2 in league play and made it to master which was the highest rank apart from a grandmaster. I remember playing against a pro player, who at the time was playing for optic (a pro team), and when I killed him, I knew that I wanted to go pro. Now fast forward to today, my cousin invited me to try Valorant when it was in beta, and that's how I got into playing it."

Why did you choose Cleveland State?
"I chose Cleveland State because it was close to home and I would be able to live with my parents and still get the perks of the University."

What advice would you give someone looking to get into Esports?
"If you want to get into a game competitively, you'll have to dedicate your time to that game only. However, playing games isn't everything, taking care of your physical health is also important, so make sure you sleep enough hours and workout every day, even if it's just 30 minutes."
