Kristina Artino, a 13-year veteran in higher education and athletics academic advising, has joined Cleveland State University’s athletics department as Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services.

“I am honored and excited to join the CSU Athletics family,” Artino said. “I look forward to leading the academic unit and cultivating relationships across campus, but most importantly impacting the student-athletes to reach their full potential. We have a great opportunity to build on the success of our program, and I am eager to get started.”

Artino will lead a team that includes two full-time academic advisors and will work directly with both the Viking’s men’s and women’s basketball programs as their primary advisor. Artino will look to build upon CSU’s successful culture of academic achievement, with a department cumulative grade point average above 3.0 for 34 consecutive semesters.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kristina to our administrative team here at Cleveland State,” said Deputy Athletic Director Kelsie Gory Harkey. “Her proven track record of success at multiple institutions made her a perfect fit for this position. We look forward to the impact she will have on our student-athletes as we push for continued success in the classroom.”

Artino comes to Cleveland after stints at Case Western Reserve University, Florida State University and the University of Akron.

Most recently, Artino served as the Assistant Director of Student Advancement and then Associate Dean of Undergraduate Advising at Case Western. While there she managed a cohort of 400 students from enrollment commitment through graduation.  She served as a resource helping to guide students in specific decisions regarding course selection and served on multiple university and department committees.

Prior to her time at Case Western, Artino spent the 2021-22 academic year as Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services at Florida State.  In her time at FSU she provided academic advising services to all student-athletes, specifically overseeing advising for the Seminoles’ track and field program.

Artino spent twelve years in various roles at the University of Akron, her alma mater.  She started as an Administrative Assistant in the School of Communications in 2009, before making her way to the Athletics Department where she served in various roles within the Academic Services unit from 2012-2021. She served as the Interim Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services during the final months of her tenure at UA.

Artino holds four degrees from Akron: an Associate’s of Applied Business in 2006, a Bachelor of Science in 2009, a Master of Science in 2011, and a Master of Arts in Education in 2018.
