A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

CROSS COUNTRY
    •    Cleveland State will continue its 2015 season at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday, October 2 – their second straight 6K of the season.
    •    The Vikings placed 11th at the LHU Invitational on Saturday, paced by Ashlyn Woods who recorded the second-fastest 6K time in CSU history (22:25).

FENCING
    •    The men’s and women’s fencing teams will open the season at the Ohio State Open and Duals on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 3-4). The team is under the direction of first-year head coach James Fazekas.

MEN’S GOLF
    •    The Vikings conclude play at the NKU Collegiate Classic with the final 18 holes on Monday.
    •    CSU entered the final round in fourth place after rounds of 290 and 288 on Sunday, while Pat Luth carded consecutive rounds of one-under-par 70 and is in second place.

WOMEN’S GOLF
    •    CSU returns to action on Oct. 5-6 at the Rocket Classic on Catawba Island, Ohio.
    •    The Vikings finished 12th of 16 teams at the Ball State Cardinal Classic on Sept. 21-22 as Sophie Kelner tied for 38th place overall with rounds of 79-77-77 (233).

MEN’S SOCCER
    •    The Vikings (3-5, 0-2 HL) continue Horizon League play when CSU hosts Detroit on Saturday (Oct. 3).
    •    CSU split two matches last week, earning a 3-0 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday, but dropping a 1-0 contest at Valparaiso on Saturday.
    •    Gianluca DiFranco, Dan Koniarczyk and Jake Lagania all scored in the victory over Cincinnati, while Lagania and Antonio Birgoa registered assists.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
    •    The Vikings (5-4-1, 1-0 HL) play two matches this week, hosting Youngstown State on Wednesday (Sept. 30) and traveling to Green Bay on Saturday (Oct. 3).
    •    CSU opened League play with a 1-0 victory over Detroit on Saturday as Vickie Havas scored off assists from McKenna Vento and Kaila Sargema.
    •    Havas broke the CSU career record for career goals, raising her total to 20 goals. For Vento, it was her league-leading fifth assist of the season.

MEN’S TENNIS
    •    CSU takes a week off from competition, returning to action at the UT Rocket Invitational on Oct. 9-10.
    •    The Vikings competed at the WMU/Vredevelt Invitational last weekend, with William Malm and Joe VanMeter winning the A Doubles Consolation bracket.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
    •    The Vikings will take a week off from competition, returning to action at the UB Fall Invitational in Buffalo, N.Y. from Oct. 9-11.
    •    CSU participated in the Hoosier Classic over the weekend with Princess Gbadamosi, Mathilde Orange, Morgan Nix, Victoria Bensimon, and Katy Quillin all recording singles wins.

VOLLEYBALL
    •    The Vikings (13-3, 2-0) will continue Horizon League play this weekend, hosting Youngstown State on Friday, October 2.
    •    CSU has won five straight matches after 3-0 victories over Green Bay and Milwaukee to open Horizon League play over the weekend.
    •    The Vikings lead the Horizon League in hitting percentage (.262) and blocks (2.46), while Alexis Middlebrooks in tops in the league averaging 1.15 blocks per set.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Vickie Havas, Women’s Soccer, Senior, Stow, Ohio

Havas led the Vikings to a 1-0 win over Detroit on Saturday in the Horizon League opener for CSU, scoring the lone goal of the match in the 77th minute. It was her fourth goal of the season, all of which have been game-winners. Havas also moved into first place on the all-time goals list at CSU with her 20th career tally.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS

Gina Kilner: The volleyball sophomore averaged 35.5 assists in CSU’s two wins last week to open League play, leading CSU to a .268 attack percentage.

Jake Lagania: The men’s soccer sophomore netted had a goal and an assist in Wednesday’s 3-1 victory over Cincinnati at Krenzler Field.

Ashlyn Woods: The cross country junior finished 12th at the LHU Invitational, running a 22:25, the second-best 6K performance in program history.
