A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

CROSS COUNTRY
    •    CSU returns to the course on Saturday (Sept. 19) at the Friendship Invitational in Cedarville, Ohio.
    •    Last time out, the Vikings ran at the Running Fit Detroit Titan Invitational – paced by freshman Marissa Sell who finished 21st overall with a personal-best 5K time of 20:24.

MEN’S GOLF
    •    CSU continues its fall slate when the Vikings play at the Marshall Invitational on Monday & Tuesday.
    •    The Vikings finished second of 15 teams at the season opening Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate on Sept. 6-7. Joey Krecic claimed medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 212 (68-72-72).

MEN’S SOCCER
    •    CSU (2-3) opens Horizon League play on Saturday (Sept. 19) when the Vikings host Wright State at 7:00 pm at Krenzler Field.
    •    The Vikings won a pair of matches at the Duquesne Invitational over the weekend, earning a 2-1 overtime win over Cornell on Friday and defeating Duquesne, 1-0, on Sunday.
    •    Gianluca DiFranco scored a first half goal vs. Cornell, while Jake Lagania netted the game-winner on penalty kick in the 98th minute. Hesham Hammouda scored the lone goal vs. Duquesne with Kareem Banton registering the assist.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
    •    The Vikings (4-4-1) open League play on Friday (Sept. 18) night with an 8:00 pm match at UIC.
    •    CSU split a pair of matches over the weekend, shutting out Cansius, 2-0, on Friday night and falling 2-0 at Kent State on Sunday.
    •    Vickie Havas and Ashley Thiss scored goals against Canisius with Havas tying the CSU career record with her 19th career goal.

MEN’S TENNIS
    •    The Vikings will compete in their first fall tournament of the 2015-16 season this weekend, taking part in the Valparaiso Invitational (Friday, Sept. 18 – Saturday, Sept. 19).
    •    CSU is under the guidance of 14-year head coach Brian Etzkin and returns five letterwinners from last season’s squad including senior Joe VanMeter – who has been Cleveland State’s top singles player.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
    •    The Vikings will open their fall slate at the Akron Shootout this weekend (Friday, Sept. 18 – Sunday, Sept. 20) competing against UMBC, Youngstown State, and the host Zips.
    •    CSU is led by 14-year head coach Brian Etzkin and returns five letterwinners from last season’s squad, including senior Mathilde Orange who has been one of CSU’s top singles players throughout her career.

VOLLEYBALL
    •    The Vikings (8-3) will participate in their final early season tournament this weekend, taking part in the Blue/Gold Invitational hosted by Toledo.
    •    Cleveland State will face Radford (10:00 a.m.) and Robert Morris (5:00 p.m.) on Friday, Sept. 18 and will then face the host Rockets at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19.
    •    The Vikings posted a 2-1 record at the Dayton Invitational over the weekend, picking up wins over Eastern Illinois (3-2) and Baylor (3-1).

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Joey Krecic, Men’s Golf, Sophomore, Columbia Station, OH

Krecic opened the fall season by claiming medalist honors at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate. After a four-under-par 68 to open the tournament, Krecic shot back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 to claim the individual title by one shot and help CSU to a runner-up finish as a team.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS

Vickie Havas: The women’s soccer senior scored her 19th career goal in Friday’s win over Canisius, tying her for the CSU record for career goals.

Jake Lagania: The men’s soccer sophomore netted a penalty kick in the first overtime to give CSU a 2-1 victory over Cornell on Friday afternoon.

Christina Toth: The volleyball senior was named to the Dayton Flyer Invitational All-Tournament team after totaling 54 kills and hitting .291 in the three matches.
