Cleveland State Student-Athletes Finish Strong in the Classroom in Spring 2024 Semester

Cleveland, OH-Cleveland State student-athletes finished with yet another outstanding semester in the classroom as the Spring 2024 semester came to a close. Overall, Cleveland State student-athletes posted a 3.40 semester GPA and a 3.47 cumulative GPA. This is the second consecutive semester with a GPA above a 3.4 after student-athletes posted a 3.46 semester GPA this past fall. 

This marks the 36th consecutive semester that Cleveland State student-athletes have finished with a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 or higher. This is the 11th consecutive semester above a 3.3 GPA, a streak that dates back to the spring of 2019.

"Congratulations to our student-athletes on another incredible semester in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Kelsie Gory Harkey. "The grades recorded are remarkable and prove the commitment our student-athletes, coaches and staff have to becoming champions in the classroom. The impact our academic staff, including Assistant Athletics Director Kristina Artino, advisors Meghan Sanniti and Morgan Sutton, and Success Specialist Jessica Livermore, have in working daily with our student-athletes is significant and greatly appreciated by everyone with whom they work."

Four women's teams finished with a semester GPA of 3.6 or better. Women's track and field and cross country had the highest semester mark, finishing with a 3.83 GPA. Women's fencing, women's soccer and volleyball all posted semester marks of above a 3.6.

On the men's side, men's golf took the top spot with a 3.55 semester GPA. Four men's teams finished with a 3.4 semester GPA or better, including men's lacrosse, men's swimming and diving, and wrestling.

A total of 227 student-athletes earned academic honors at the conclusion of the semester. 192 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List, with 35 earning President's List recognition. In addition, 53 student-athletes finished with a perfect 4.0 semester GPA. 

Student-athletes must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and finish with a semester GPA of 3.25 or higher to earn Dean's List qualification. Those who finish with a 3.9 semester GPA or higher with a minimum of 15 hours earn President's List recognition.

The department honored a total of 83 student-athletes who earned their degrees at the University's commencement ceremonies on May 11. 60 of those individuals graduated with honors. Kierstin Clark (women's soccer) and Jenna Deang (softball) were named Valedictorians of their respective colleges for their outstanding academic achievements throughout their time at CSU.
