A LOOK AT WHAT'S HAPPENING

MEN'S GOLF

  • The Vikings are out of action until April 2-3 when CSU competes at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational.
  • The tournament will be played at Chambers Bay, site of the 2015 US Open.
  • Junior Anton Krecic has been CSU's top finisher in six of CSU's seven events this year and is third in the Horizon League with a 73.5 scoring average.

WOMEN'S GOLF

  • CSU concludes play at the Babs Steffens Hatten Collegiate with the final round today in Florida.
  • The Vikings are in 10th place of 12 teams after the first two rounds.
  • Freshman Madison Butler is tied for 18th place with a 36-hole total of 158 (78-80).

MEN'S LACROSSE

  • Cleveland State will take the upcoming weekend off before resuming its schedule with a home date against Hampton on Saturday, April 7.
  • The Vikings suffered a 16-5 setback at Penn State last time out.
  • Freshman Michael Wilson tallied a pair of assists in the contest and now owns points in each of the first 10 games of his collegiate career.

SOFTBALL

  • The Vikings (9-16) return to action with five games this week as CSU is slated to host Niagara for a doubleheader at 2:00 pm on Wednesday (March 28) and also travel to Green Bay to open Horizon League play with three games this weekend.
  • Mackenzie Joecken leads the team with a .378 average, three homers and nine runs batted in. She also has five wins in the circle and leads the team with 34 strikeouts.
  • Mel Woodard is hitting .369, while Macy Kaisk is batting .308 and Riley Ries is hitting .305 with a team-best 19 RBI.

MEN'S TENNIS

  • Cleveland State (10-8, 1-0 HL) will split its matches next weekend, hosting Youngstown State on Saturday (March 31) before traveling to Michigan on Sunday (April 1).
  • Last time out, the Vikings picked up a 6-1 victory over Green Bay to open Horizon League play, notching its second straight league-opening win.
  • Luke Phillips picked up a win at No. 3 singles, recording his 20th singles win of the year. Phillips joins Nico Mostardi and Matthew Terry in the 20-win club.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

  • The Vikings (6-10, 2-0 HL) will continue Horizon League play next weekend, hosting Youngstown State on Saturday, March 31.
  • Cleveland State picked up back-to-back wins to open league play for the seventh time over the last 16 seasons last weekend, earning a 6-0 win over Green Bay and a 7-0 win over Milwaukee.
  • After the first weekend of league play, Aleksandra Golawska, Blanche Lenoan, Jana Schober, and Isabella Spindler all own a perfect 2-0 mark in singles play.

WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

  • Cleveland State will continue its outdoor slate this weekend, taking part in the Oliver Nikoloff Open at Cincinnati.
  • This will be the second of seven outdoor meets for the Vikings, as they opened the season at the William & Mary Tribe Invitational earlier this month.

VIKING OF THE WEEK

Isabella Spindler | Jr. | Women's Tennis
Spindler went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles to help Cleveland State to a 2-0 record to open Horizon League play. She won both of her singles matches in straight sets, dropping just seven games. She now owns a team-best 14-11 singles record this year, while she has teamed with Aleksandra Golawska for a team-best 14-3 doubles record.
