JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Junior Algevon Eichelberger scored a career-high 23 points and tied his career high with 13 rebounds, but Cleveland State dropped an 80-55 decision to East Tennessee State on Saturday in Freedom Hall.
Eichelberger was 10-of-17 from the floor to surpass his previous career high of 21 points he tallied earlier this season against Robert Morris. He also grabbed 13 rebounds, which tied his career high accomplished earlier this season against UNC Wilmington and Toledo. The junior also recorded his third double-double of the season, which tops the team.
Cleveland State, which dropped to 4-9 on the season, also got a season-high 14 points from Torrey Patton. Patton finished the game 6-of-10 from the field and he also added four rebounds and a steal.
East Tennessee State, whcih improved to 11-2 on the season, shot 56.0 percent from the floor in the second half and got 16 points from Tray Boyd.
After falling behind by 11 points early in the game Cleveland State rallied to cut the lead to just 25-22 with 6:26 to play in the opening half. The Buccaneers closed the first half on a 12-3 run to take 42-29 lead into the lockerroom.
Cleveland State retuns to action on Dec. 28 when it opens Horizon League play at UIC at 4 p.m.
