CHICAGO - Cleveland State completed its first-ever sweep of UIC, pushing across the winning run in the seventh inning en route to a 4-3 victory on Sunday afternoon. All three Vikings wins on the weekend came by a single run.

CSU struck for a run in the top of the first, as Danielle Young had the last of four straight hits to drive in Jessica Burt. UIC escaped further damage when starter Sarah Clynes induced a 1-2-3 double play grounder from the next batter.

Michele Penney doubled the lead with her fourth home run of the season leading off the next frame.

The Flames threatened in the bottom half of the second, loading the bases with no outs. However, Amanda Macenko escaped from the jam relatively unscathed, allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly. UIC would then knot the score at 2-2 with an unearned run in its next at-bat.

The Vikings moved back ahead in the fourth when Tara Meyer scored on an RBI single by Burt. The score would remain the same until the Flames tied the game at 3-3 on a two-out RBI double by Clynes.

CSU pushed back ahead in the top of the seventh when Burt led off with a single, moved to second on a walk by Sarah Milosek and scored on a two-out, pinch-hit single by Lia Gordon.

Macenko went the distance for the 17th time, scattering nine hits while giving up a pair of earned runs to improve to 17-8 on the year. The 17 victories are the fourth-most in CSU history.

Clynes gave up 11 hits and four runs to fall to 12-15.

Burt paced the Vikings with a 3-for-4 performance, while Penney and Meyer each collected a pair of hits.

Cleveland State is in action again on Tuesday when the Vikings close out their regular season home slate with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader against Robert Morris.
