Center fielder Michele Penney is a winner on the field, in the classroom and at whatever else she does. One of only two seniors on the team, she is a leader by example and a tough competitor with great instincts. A second team NFCA All-Region pick and a first team All-Horizon League selection in 2006, she will be counted upon to anchor the middle of the batting order as well as the outfield.

2006 - Junior Season

Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Great Lakes Region second team choice...first team All-Horizon League...member of the Horizon League Championship All-Tournament team for the second straight year after hitting .294 with two home runs and six RBI...led the Vikings with a .412 average (28-68), 17 RBI and 10 extra-base hits in league play...hit .433 (13-30) during a 10-game hitting streak from March 29-April 12...had 13 multi-hit and 10 multi-RBI games...had two RBI in three straight league championship games (5/11-12)...went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, four RBI and three runs scored against Butler (4/22)...went 4-for-8 with three RBI in twin bill at Youngstown State (4/22)...launched two-out, two-strike, two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to push CSU past Youngstown State (4/13)...plated winning runs with fifth-inning, two-run double at Loyola (4/8).

2005 - Sophomore Season

Named to the Horizon League Championship All-Tournament team after hitting a team-best .375 in six games...led the squad in RBI (24) and was second in doubles (7) and home runs (3) and was third in average (.291)...had 13 multi-hit and seven-multi RBI contests...batted .275 in league play...drove in both runs in 2-1 victory over Butler in opening game of league championship...went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI vs. Loyola (5/8)...knocked in a pair with a home run at UIC (5/1)...went 4-for-8, hitting for cycle with five RBI in final two games against Wright State (4/16-17)

2004 - Freshman Season

Second team all-league and all-newcomer selection...played in 34 games, starting 29...hit .253 with 13 RBI and five doubles in 79 at-bats...batted a team-high .375 in league play...batted .406 (13-32) during 11-game hitting streak from April 15-27...went 2-for-3 three with two RBI at UW-Green Bay (4/24)...drove in three at Wright State (4/10).

High School

Earned all-league honors three seasons as a center fielder and shortstop...led team to three league championships and a state title in 2003...four-year letterwinner...also won four letters in soccer as a goalie...set the school record for shutouts with 11.

Born Nov. 27, 1984...daughter of Mark and Susan Penney...has a brother, Mark...represented CSU at the 2006 NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla...CSU Athletic Academic Excellence Award winner...anthropology major.
