Cleveland State Women's Cross Country

Meet 5 - All-Ohio Championship

Date: Friday, Oct. 6

Time: 2:00 p.m.

Site: Delaware, Ohio

THE STARTING LINE: The Cleveland State women's cross country team returns to action after a week off on Friday (Oct. 6) at the All-Ohio Championship in Delaware, Ohio. The meet begins at 2:00 p.m.

THE LAST TIME OUT: CSU finished fifth of six teams at the Ohio Invitational on Sept. 23 in Athens, Ohio. Freshman Caitlan Ebner was the top finisher for the Vikings, placing 15th overall with a time of 21:09. Freshman Colleen Conway placed 34th overall, clocking in at 22:42. Sophomore Madeline Singer (23:07), senior Sherri Douglas (23:21) and senior Shannon Graves (24:02) finished 3-4-5 for the CSU, respectively. Sophomore Melisa Mazanec rounded out the lineup with a time of 25:51.

LEADER OF THE PACK: Caitlan Ebner has been the top runner for CSU in each of its four meets this season. Her season-best time of 20:10 came at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 9. Ebner is the only Viking to finish a race in under 21 minutes, which she accomplished in each of the season's first three meets.

SOME OTHER VIKINGS NOT FAR BEHIND: Although Caitlan Ebner has consistently been CSU's leader on the course, sophomore Madeline Singer and freshman Colleen Conway have been not far behind all season. Singer has finished no lower than third on the team in any meet this season, with her season-best time (22:14) coming at the Toledo Invitational on Sept. 9. Conway, who joined the team mid-season, is also coming off her best performance of the season (22:42).

MISSING IN ACTION: The Vikings have been short-handed in each of their four meets this season. In the season opener on Sept. 2, CSU was without Shannon Graves and for the past three meets sophomores Audrey and Julie Piotrowski have been unable to run due to injuries. In addition, junior Christina Swierz has not run in the last two meets because she has been playing on the CSU softball team.

JAKETIC ON THE VIKINGS: "Despite some injuries and running in some adverse conditions, our runners have stayed tough and competed in every race. Our freshmen have been consistently at the top of our lineup and we have been improving every week."

UP NEXT: The Vikings will compete at the Falcon Invitational at Bowling Green, Ohio on Saturday, Oct. 14. The meet, CSU's last 5K meet of the regular season, will begin at 10:45 a.m.
