Valparaiso, Ind. - It was all business for Cleveland State against Valparaiso on Friday (Jan. 20) evening, as the Viking men's and women's swimming teams posted wins in all but one event to claim dual meet wins against the Crusaders. The men's squad registered a 130-68 victory, while the women's team picked up a 140-55 decision.

The women's team scored wins in all but one event on the night, with junior Marianne Lionell and freshman Jen MacLauchlan swimming to two each.

Lionell posted top marks in the 50 free (25.23) and the 100 breast (1:08.77), while MacLauchlan scored wins in the 200 IM (2:18.80) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.22).

Senior Kirsty McKechnie recorded a top time in the 500 freestyle (5:22.47), while sophomore Leslie Jones (100 free - 54.74) and freshmen Sandra Bunker (1,000 free - 11:15.17) and Katie Bellew (100 fly - 1:01.91) swam to wins as well.

"It was nice to see us swim well in someone else's pool," women's head coach Mike Lehto said. "We were focusing on doing that. We started off strong and we continued it throughout the night. Our younger swimmers stepped up and really gave us the added depth that we needed."

The men's team scored wins in all 11 events on the night, including two wins each by junior Bjorn Schantz and freshmen Marko Milenkovic and Nedim Nisic.

Schantz posted strong showings in a pair of distance events, scoring top times in the 200 freestyle (1:42.00) and the 500 freestyle (4:38.86). Milenkovic registered wins in the 50 free (21.94) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.03), while Nisic added top marks in the 200 IM (1:58.05) and 100 butterfly (53.15).

Senior Daniel Thomasson scored a season-best time in the 1,000 freestyle (9:47.78), while junior Joe Badziong (100 free - 53.15) and sophomore Ari Markle (100 back - 54.62) notched wins of their own.

"We certainly put together a convincing win tonight," men's head coach Wally Morton said. "I'm really happy with some of our swims. This is a tough pool to swim in. There was a lot of energy in the building tonight, but we rose to the occasion."

The Vikings men's team heads to Notre Dame on Saturday (Jan. 21) for a 1:00 p.m. meet with the Fighting Irish. The women's team is idle until Jan. 28 when they take on St. Francis at 1:00 p.m.
