CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State women's swimming team put up some strong times against Duquesne and Xavier on Saturday (Jan. 14) at Busbey Natatorium, but it would not be enough in the end as the Dukes and Musketeers handed the Vikings a pair of defeats.

Duquesne claimed a 125-63 win over the Vikings, while Xavier topped CSU by a score of 111-76.

Junior Marianne Lionell posted a pair of the team's strongest efforts, claiming a win in the 100 freestyle (53.67) and a second-place time in the 200 IM (2:14.99).

Senior Kirsty McKechnie added a second-place time of 5:15.84 in the 500 freestyle, while sophomore Leslie Jones swam the 50 freestyle in 25.43 for second as well.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Lionell, freshman Jen MacLauchlan, sophomore Deanna Raedel and Jones closed out the afternoon with a second-place time of 3:40.39.

"I was kind of uncertain of what to expect from having such a young team coming off of a tough training trip," head coach Mike Lehto said. "We were really tired, but we still swam pretty well."

With the defeats, the Vikings fall to 6-6 on the season.

CSU heads to Valparaiso on Jan. 20 when they take on the Crusaders at 6:00 p.m.
