CINCINNATI - Cleveland State closed out this weekend's road swing with a flurry, posting five O'Connor Sports Center pool records en route to claiming a pair of wins over Xavier on Saturday (Nov. 5) afternoon. The men's team came away with a 54-32 victory, while the women's squad edged out a 50-45 triumph.

Four of the five pool records came at the hands of the men's team, with senior Pieter Pelser claiming two of them. Pelser led off the 400 medley relay with a record 100 backstroke time of 51.61 before posting the 200 backstroke record with a 1:52.32 time. Junior Bjorn Schantz added a 1,000 freestyle record time of 9:35.15, while sophomore Dave Duecker notched a 2:10.20 in the 200 breaststroke for the fourth record. The women's 400 freestyle relay team of Marianne Lionell, Jen MacLauchlan, Leslie Jones and Deanna Raedel chipped in a women's record with a time of 3:38.18.

Despite winning only four events on the day, the women's team used its depth to outscore the Musketeers in a close contest. Lionell added a pair of individual wins for the women's squad, swimming to top times in the 200 IM (2:12.97) and in the 100 free (53.94), while MacLauchlan posted a win in the 50 free (25.39).

The men's team tallied wins in all but three events on the day, including a three wins by Duecker thanks to his record 200 breast time plus wins in the 200 IM (1:57.93) and the 200 fly (1:57.36). Schantz added two wins of his own with his record 1,000 free time and an additional win in the 500 free (4:47.78).

"We had a great effort today coming off of a tough meet yesterday," men's head coach Wally Morton said, referring the pair of losses to Wright State on Friday (Nov. 4). "We showed a lot of character and resilience to be able to bounce back and take care of business."

"It was a good way to end the weekend," women's head coach Mike Lehto added. "We came back and swam a lot faster today and that is good to see when we are on the road."

The women's team returns to action on Nov. 9 when they head to Youngstown State for a 6:00 p.m. contest. Both teams then return to Busbey Natatorium on Nov. 16 when they host Baldwin-Wallace, Gannon, John Carroll and Oberlin beginning at 4:00 p.m.
