CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Carrie Twyman scored a pair of goals and Butler had a 27-4 shot advantage as the Bulldogs held off Cleveland State, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Krenzler Field.

The loss drops the Vikings to 4-13-1 overall and 1-6-1 in Horizon League play, finishing the year in eighth place in the league standings. Butler improved to 9-8-1 overall and 5-3 in league play.

It was Senior Day for the Vikings with CSU seniors Shayna Back, Heather Clapacs and Amber Rasmussen, each of who has played in over 70 games during their careers.

"This was a very big day for us because we took a minute to honor our three seniors who have given so much to this program over the last four years," head coach Derrek Falor said. "Shayna, Heather and Amber have been through it all during their four years and the growth that this program has shown is all because of them."

Butler opened the scoring in the 40th minute when Alex Shaffer cross a ball from the right wing and Twyman headed it in from about five yards out.

The 1-0 score held until the second half when Butler made it 2-0 when Angie Muir tallied her team-high 10th goal of the year. Her initial shot in front of the goal was blocked by the CSU defense but bounced right back to her and she one-timed it into the right corner of the goal at the 69:04 mark.

The Vikings closed to within 2-1 in the 77th minute when junior Abbie Kakias played a beautiful long ball ahead to Jennifer Wieand, who took one dribble on the breakaway before blasting a shot from 15 yards past Butler goalie Jessica Schein. The goal extended Wieand's ongoing school records for goals (8) and points (19) in a season.

Wieand also took two shots in the match to set the CSU season record, topping the previous mark of 51 set by Lisa Conway last season.

Butler took advantage of the Viking offensive pressure when Kenzie Kokta played a long ball ahead to Twyman, who beat Viking goalie Kelly Zinkiewich to the ball around 10 yards outside the box. Twyman took one dribble to elude Zinkiewich and then calmly booted the ball into the empty net to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead at the 81:00 mark.

"We played tired all afternoon," Falor said "After playing to double overtime on Friday night, we just didn't have much left today and it really showed. We seemed to be a step behind all afternoon.

"Still, I thought we did a nice job defensively in containing Butler. We allowed them to control play and take a lot of shots, but we covered nicely and prevented them from putting too many goals on the board."

Zinkiewich turned in one of her best performances in goal, making a career-high 13 saves to become the third goalie in CSU history to record more than 100 saves in a season. She now has 111.

CSU will enter the Horizon League Championship as the No. 8 seed, hosting No. 9 Youngstown State on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field while Butler, the No. 4 seed, will host No. 5 Valparaiso on Saturday (Nov. 3).
