SETTING THE SCENE:

The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action this week on Friday (Nov. 1), 5:00 p.m., as the team will travel to Columbus, Ohio to swim against Ohio State, Denison, and Virginia Tech.  The men will then have their second home meet of the year, as the Vikings will swim against Miami (OH) with events beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 2).

REVIEWING LAST WEEK:

Men - Won, 149-92 over Green Bay

Women-  Lost, 138-105 to Green Bay

  • The men had solid showings from freshman Patrick Walsh and senior Alex Lewis, who both had two first place finishes.
  • Walsh won the 1,000 free and the 500 free, with Lewis winning the 50 free and the 100 free.
  • The men won nine of the 13 swimming events on the day.

RING CEREMONY:

  • Prior to the swim meet against Miami (OH), the 2012-13 men's swimming and diving team will receive their Horizon League Championship rings on their accomplishments from a year ago. 10 minutes before the meet the Horizon League Championship banner will be unveiled.

WALSH AND LEWIS DOMINATE:

  • Freshman Patrick Walsh finished first in the 1,000 yard free (9:45.28) and the 500 free (4:45.29).
  • Senior Alex Lewis finished atop in the 50 free (20.61) and in the 100 free (46.50).

STARTING OUT WITH A SPLASH:

  • The men and women won three out of the four diving events against Green Bay.
  • Stephen Schillero had the top score of 303.00 in the 3-meter dive.
  • Danny Roberts had a top score of 283.94 in the 1-meter dive.

14 FIRST PLACE WINS:

  • Between both the men and women the Vikings had 14 first place finishes against Green Bay.
  • The first place finishes were in 3-meter diving (men), 400 yard medley relay (men), 1,000 yard freestyle (men and women), 200 yard free (women), 50 yard free (men), 1-meter dive (men and women), 200 fly (men), 100 free (men and women), 500 free (men and women), and 200 yard breast (men).

SECOND PLACE FINISHES:

  • The men and women had 11 second second place finishes on the afternoon against Green Bay.

UP NEXT:

  • The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return back home to Busbey Natatorium on Friday (Nov. 8) as the Vikings will swim against St. Bonaventure.  The swim events will begin at 3:00 p.m.  The men and women will then travel to Niagara for a dual meet on Saturday (Nov. 9) with the meet beginning at 1:00 p.m.
