Vikings Have Six First Place Finishes Against Miami University

CLEVELAND, Ohio-  The Cleveland State men's swimming and diving team swam against Miami University on Saturday afternoon at Robert F. Busbey Natatorium.

The Vikings had six first place winners in the individual swimming and diving events.  Al Shillito and Alex Lewis won a pair of swimming events.  Shillito had the top time in the 100 backstroke (51.20) and in the 200 backstroke (1:53.77).  Lewis won his two events in the 50 free (20.64) and in the 100 free he ended up tying for first with Miami's Joe Baumgartner with a time of 45.59.  Danny Roberts placed first in the 3-meter diving with a top score of 307.95.  CSU won the 400 Freestyle Relay with Nathan Grant, Robert Tolson, Alex Lewis, and Adam Ingledew leading the charge.  The four timed out at 3:06.18.

Cleveland State's six second place finishes were led by Patrick Walsh, who swam in the 1,000 Freestyle (9:39.35) and also took second in the 500 free (4:44.83), Nathan Grant swimming in the 100 breast (57.47) and the 200 breast(2:05.95), Stephen Schillero finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 280.50, and the Vikings finished runner-up in the 200 Medley Relay (Shillito, Grant, Lewis, and Nordike) with a time of 1:33.64.

Despite the 174.5- 123.5 loss to Miami University, the Vikings swam well in the pool with much improved times in the meet.  The men will be back in the pool at home as the Vikings will welcome St. Bonaventure on Friday (Nov. 8), with events beginning at 3:00 p.m.
