TOLEDO, Ohio - The Vikings' cross country team put fourth another strong effort at the Central Collegiate Invite on Saturday, finishing eight of nine teams with 242 points. The Vikings finished just one spot behind conference rival UIC.

Junior Sherri Douglas led the team for the second straight week finishing in 48th place, at 20:11. She was followed by Julie Piotrowski, who finished 52nd, at 20:26. Running in her first race of the season was Julie's twin sister Audrey Piotrowski, who finished third on the team in 67th place, at 21:24. Madeline Singer finished in 72nd place, at 23:15 while Lesley Jones and Shilah Pratt finished 74th, at 23:22 and 76th, at 26:11, respectively.

"I thought we ran well again," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "It was nice to have Audrey back in the lineup and I know she was excited to run."

The Vikings have a completely different team from the one in 2004 that failed to qualify for a team score all season.

"I am proud of the team for fighting as hard as they have been," Jaketic said. "It isn't easy building a program with six new runners, but the team has been up for the challenge."

The team will head to the Great Lakes Pre-Regional in Westchester, Ohio on Friday, Sept. 23 at 4:30 p.m.
