Volleyball Drops Four-Game Decision At UIC

CHICAGO - Cleveland State's struggles in Chicago continued on Friday night with a 30-26, 30-32, 30-24, 30-19 loss at Illinois-Chicago. The defeat drops the Vikings to 15-13 overall, 2-8 in Horizon League play and 0-16 all-time at UIC, while the Flames improve to 9-17, 1-9.

"UIC played well defensively, but we really didn't come ready to play," CSU head coach Chuck Voss said. "We kind of stopped playing after we got up in the second game."

For the match, the Flames out-hit the Vikings .276 to .193 while also recording 16 more digs (74-58).

Junior middle hitter Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/Chanel) paced CSU with 18 kills, a .441 hitting percentage and four blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Jenna Maddocks (Norwalk, Ohio/Norwalk) added 11 kills, while sophomores Emily Clark (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) and Katie Calhoon (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison) both tallied 12 digs.

Kristi Herrington led UIC with 14 kills, a .435 hitting percentage and five blocks, while Teaha Shepperd recorded 13 kills and 17 digs.

Cleveland State is in action again tomorrow (Nov. 1) as the Vikings complete their Chicago swing with an 8:00 p.m. EST match at Loyola.
