Final Stats

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State swept past UW-Green Bay, 30-23, 30-20, 31-29, on Saturday afternoon to remain in fourth place in the Horizon League with three weeks remaining in the regular season. The Vikings improve to 15-6 overall and 5-4 in the league with their 13th sweep of the season, while the Phoenix falls to 10-11, 4-5.

CSU jumped out to leads of 21-9 and 20-11 en route to claiming the first two games with relative ease. However, UWGB came out of the break and stormed to a 20-12 bulge in the third frame. The Vikings slowly chipped away at the deficit, finally knotting the score at 24-24. After trading points, the Phoenix had a swing to force a fourth game at 29-28, but the attempt went long. CSU took advantage of the miscue with a block and another UWGB error to win the match.

"I knew after expending so much energy last night that we'd be a little down today," CSU head coach Chuck Voss said. "I'm happy with how we responded when we needed to and Mel [Snyder] made a couple of big plays for us."

Cleveland State dominated the play out the net, out-hitting the Phoenix .179 to .093 while holding a 10 to 6 advantage in blocks. UWGB recorded 66 digs to 57 for CSU.

Sophomore Jenni Ramminger paced the Vikings with nine kills, seven digs and six blocks, while senior Danielle Siefker added nine kills as well. Sophomore Jordan Bateman led CSU with 12 digs.

Betty Slinger recorded 12 kills, 23 assists and 12 digs for her nation's-best seventh triple-double of the season in a losing effort. Megan Elfering notched a match-best 19 digs to lead the Phoenix defensively.

Cleveland State makes its final road trip of the season next week, traveling to UIC on Oct. 27, before battling Loyola the next afternoon.
