CLEVELAND - Cleveland State defeated in-state rival Youngstown State in emphatic fashion Friday night in front of a season-high 763 fans at Woodling Gymnasium. The 30-27, 30-26, 30-11 victory was the Vikings' 10th sweep of the season. CSU improves to 14-10 overall and 2-5 in the Horizon League, while the Penguins fall to 8-10, 1-6.

"The third game was our best of the year -- we started strong and continued right up to the last point," CSU head coach Chuck Voss said. "I think the big crowd helped increase our level of intensity. The fans were very enthusiastic and fun to play in front of."

Sophomore opposite Nickole Kennedy (Sunbury, Ohio/Big Walnut), who transferred from Youngstown to CSU over the summer, paced the Viking attack with 12 kills and a .611 hitting percentage. Junior middle hitter Jamie Bouyer (Bedford Heights, Ohio/Chanel) led all players with 14 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Emily Clark (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) added eight kills and eight digs.

Senior outside hitter Colleen Royer led the Penguins with 11 kills and 10 digs.

CSU out-hit YSU .333 to .155, including a .412 to -.098 margin in game three. The Vikings also held a 49-36 advantage in digs.

Cleveland State continues its five-game homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 21 with a 7:00 p.m. match against Toledo.
