MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Cleveland State struggled offensively, falling at UW-Milwaukee 30-23, 30-26, 30-27 on Friday night. The Vikings hit .126 while the Panthers put together a .248 hitting percentage. CSU falls to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the Horizon League, while UWM improves to 10-7, 3-2 HL.
The Vikings held slim advantages in digs (52-51) and blocks (8-7), but it was not nearly enough to overcome Milwaukee's margin in hitting percentage and kills (52-38), as the Panthers dominated in offensive execution.
"Milwaukee played very well and we weren't at the top of our game tonight," CSU head coach Chuck Voss said. "Their outsides dominated us and we didn't have an answer. In this league it's tough to win on the road. I hope we can come up with a better effort tomorrow at Green Bay."
Nickole Kennedy paced the Vikings with 11 kills and a .306 hitting percentage while Emily Clark added nine kills and 14 digs. Alisa Hatcher recorded a match-high 16 digs.
Cheryl Hagemann led UWM with a match-best kills and five blocks.
Cleveland State closes out its stretch of four road league contests in five matches with a contest on Saturday (Oct. 8) at UW-Green Bay at 4:00 p.m. CDT.
