GREEN BAY, Wis. - Behind a career-high tying 13 kills from junior Marie Frease, the Cleveland State volleyball team was able to capture a 3-0 victory over Green Bay Tuesday evening at the Kress Events Center. With the win, CSU is now 11-5 on the season and 4-1 in league play, while Green Bay falls to 6-11 overall and 2-3 in the Horizon League. Tuesday's match also marked the fourth sweep in league play for the Vikings this season.

Set scores against Green Bay were 25-19, 25-18, 25-23.

"I thought we did a good job as far as getting ready to come out and play, and Green Bay came out a little flat which we were able to take advantage of," head coach Chuck Voss said. "Marie had a great match for us, and she was able to work with Jordan very well on the court tonight. We had a big lead in the middle of the third set and we made some errors that we can't make going into the last half of the season, which is something that we will need to work on throughout the coming weeks."

After trading points throughout the beginning of the first set, the Vikings were able to take a 15-10 lead after posting four straight points, including kills from Megan Barhorst and Frease. CSU held at least a four point lead for the remainder of the frame, including an eight point advantage at 22-14 before closing the set on two Green Bay errors.

During the second set the Vikings were finally able to distance themselves at the 17-13 mark when Jordan Goad tallied one of her five kills. CSU controlled the frame from this point on, eventually earning a 25-18 victory during the second set.

The Vikings held a 21-13 lead in the third set, but Green Bay was able to slowly work its way back into the frame, posting seven straight points to tie the set at 23-23. After regrouping, CSU was able to record the final two points of the match on a Jackie Dabbelt kill and a Phoenix error to take the set, 25-23.

Along with Frease's 13 kills, Barhorst tallied nine to lead the Viking offense. Goad tallied 36 assists, while Amy Grabiec posted 13 digs and Kara Koch added 10.

"Going into the two matches this weekend we need to continue to prepare and be ready to play come game time. Every match is important when it comes to league play and we need to take advantage of every opportunity that we have," Voss said.

The Vikings will continue their three-match road swing this weekend, when CSU plays at Valparaiso and UIC. Cleveland State will face Valparaiso at 6:00 p.m. EST on Saturday (Oct. 8) and will then face UIC at 5:00 p.m. EST on Sunday (Oct. 9).
