Cleveland, Ohio Deanna Raedel, Jen MacLauchlan, and Katie Bellew led the way but that was not enough as the CSU women fell to St. Bonaventure 170-55. The Vikings fall to 0-4 on the season.
"Even though we lost tonight," head coach Wally Morton said. "I'm proud of the way the ladies competed."
Deanna Raedel had a good night for the Vikings as she helped the 400 medley relay team to a second place finish (4:10.07), finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (25.90), and finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.44).
"I'm proud of Deanna's success tonight," Morton said. "Even though she finished fourth in the 50 freestyle that was one of her best times of the year."
Jen MacLauchlan continued to impress as she finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:12.55), placed second in the 200 IM (2:16.09) and helped the 400 medley relay team to a second place finish (4:10.07).
"Jen has been working her butt off," Morton said. "She has really is coming into her own recently."
Katie Bellew finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.85).
"Katie has shown us a lot of heart this season," Morton said. "She is another swimmer who continues to improve on a week by week basis."
Other women who performed well in their events were Sandra Bunker who finished third in the 200 backstroke (2:22.05), Frances Carrion who placed second in the 500 freestyle (5:27.44), and Brittany McCann who placed third in the 500 freestyle (5:52.82).
Two of Cleveland State's relay teams had second place finishes as the 400 medley relay team of Jen MacLauchlan, Deanna Raedel, Katie Bellew and Kristina Nagy placed second and the 400 freestyle relay team of Sandra Bunker, Kristine Bunker, Alexandra Bagi, and Erin Green also finished in the top two (3:51.27)
"I'm proud of the women for the way they are competing," Morton said. "If they continue to practice hard the winning will come."
The women are off until next Saturday when they travel to Miami (Oh) for a 2:00 p.m. meet.
