Four Vikings Named All-MCC In Softball

Four Cleveland State University softball players were named all-Midwestern Collegiate Conference in voting by the league's head coaches it was recently announced.

Centerfielder Tiffany Stocker (Sherrodsville, OH/Conotton Valley) and infielder Jackie Miller (Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Walsh Jesuit) earned first-team honors while catcher Stephanie Taylor (Wintersville, OH/Indian Creek) and utility player Jessica Miller (Medina, OH/Medina) were second-team selections.

Stocker, a junior, becomes a three-time all-conference selection after making the first team as a freshman and the second team last season. CSU's lead-off hitter, Stocker led the team in batting average and ranked fifth in the MCC at .363 during the regular season. The speedster, who is CSU's all-time stolen base leader with 99, paced the league with 39 swipes this season - a total that topped her own single-season record for the Vikings. In addition, she legged out three triples to rank second in MCC. Defensively, Stocker finished the year errorless, recording 88 putouts and five assists.

Jackie Miller, also a junior, split time between third and first base during the year while seeing action in all 52 contests. Miller hit .263 on the year, tagging eight doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs. In addition, she accounted for 20 RBI, second-best among the Vikings. Defensively, Miller sported a .953 fielding percentage.

For Taylor, a redshirt sophomore, the selection to the second-team followed her selection to the All-Newcomer team last season. Taylor hit .344 on the year, second among the Vikings, and totaled eight doubles, a home run and 18 RBI. Behind the plate, Taylor threw out 16 runners attempting to steal.

A sophomore, Jessica Miller pitched, played third base and hit in the designated player spot to gain recognition as a utility player. In the circle, Miller notched a team-high 10 wins and a .368 ERA while striking out 92 batters in 176.0 innings pitched. Her strikeouts ranked fourth among MCC hurlers. At the plate, Miller hit .289 with a team-high 26 RBI which ranked fifth in the league. In addition, she rapped out a team-best 12 doubles and added a home run.
