Cleveland State's Jackie Miller Named First-Team Academic All-District IV

May 13, 2002

CLEVELAND - Cleveland State University senior Jackie Miller has been selected to the Verizon Academic All-America All-District IV First-Team in softball's university division.

The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members in District IV, which is comprised of schools in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama.

A first baseman, Miller becomes the first softball player in five years to garner such honors and will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America. In 1997, standout catcher Amy Jauert earned first-team all-district honors and went on to be named Academic All-America while current CSU assistant coach Amy Kyler earned a nod on the second-team all-district.

Miller, a native of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, carries a 3.36 cumulative grade point average with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. She has been named to the Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll twice and is a four-time recipient of CSU's Athletic Academic Excellence Award. In addition, she serves as the president of CSU's Student Athlete Advisory Board.

On the field this season, Miller earned second-team all-Horizon League honors after hitting .349 to rank seventh in the Horizon League. In addition, she ranks seventh in the league in slugging percentage (.488) and total bases (63/1.5 per game) as well as eighth in hits (45/1.07 per game).

Miller, a first-team all-league selection in 2000, currently ranks among CSU career leaders in both doubles and RBI.
