Cleveland State senior center fielder Michele Penney was named Horizon League Player of the Week on Monday, a day after leading CSU to their first sweep of UIC in 13 seasons in the league. Penney becomes the sixth Viking to be honored this season by the league office.

Penney was instrumental in CSU winning three consecutive one-run games over the home-standing Flames, hitting .500 (5-for-10) with a double, two home runs, four RBI, four runs scored and a 1.200 slugging percentage. In the series opener, the Ravenna, Ohio native doubled and scored the Vikings' first run in the fifth inning and then a frame later hit a two-run home run to put CSU up for the first time, 5-4. In the series finale, her solo homer in the second inning put the Vikings up 2-1.

On the year, Penney is hitting .291 with 18 runs scored, five doubles, 13 RBI and a team-leading four home runs.

Cleveland State (22-12, 5-6 HL) closes out its regular season home slate with a 3:00 p.m. twin bill against Robert Morris on Tuesday (May 1) at Viking Field.
