Vikings Blank Bulldogs on Senior Day

Cleveland - The Cleveland State softball team wrapped up their regular season Sunday at Viking Field, topping Butler 5-0. CSU (19-28-1, 6-11 HL) won the series with the Bulldogs (18-29, 8-13 HL) after splitting two games Saturday.

The Viking bats came to life in the third, plating four runs on two-out hits from seniors Stephanie Taylor (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek) and Jessica Miller (Medina, Ohio/Medina) and freshman Jessica Townsend (Hudson, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit).

Miller held the Bulldogs in check for the entire game, allowing only three hits and two runners past first base for the 27th win of her career.

Before the game, the Vikings' four seniors were recognized for their accomplishments on the field. Miller, Taylor, Lindsay Ball (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Emily Dopuch (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) were honored.

In addition, junior Lindsay Gervais (Bucyrus, Ohio/Colonel Crawford) was acknowledged for being named valedictorian. Gervais currently maintains a 4.0 GPA in four years at Cleveland State.

The Vikings will host the Horizon League Softball Championship at Viking Field starting Thursday, May 8 9:00 a.m.
