Box Score

The Cleveland State Vikings (15-27) split a doubleheader with Midwestern Collegiate Conference (MCC) rival Wisconsin-Green Bay today at Viking Field. The Vikes dropped the first game, 7-4, but beat the Phoenix, 2-1 in the second game on a double by Stephanie Taylor.

In the second game Kim Evans struggled in the seventh inning, but threw another solid game for CSU. Evans showed poise on the mound once again, working out of jams in the second, fourth and seventh innings.

In the fourth the Phoenix's Amber Techlin tripled to left to start the inning. After surrendering a walk, Evans retired the next three batters on two groundouts and a pop-up. In the bottom of the seventh and CSU ahead 2-0, the Phoenix loaded the bases with one out. Evans struck out Erin Barnharst for the second out, but gave up an infield single to Amy Roznowski to score a run. With the bases still full Evans secured the win by popping up Techlin to second base.

Although UWGB hurler Jenny Piotrowski pitched well for the Phoenix, the CSU bats got enough of her in the sixth to take the victory. Tiffany Stocker reached first on an error by Piotrowski and Jackie Miller singled down the left field line. With two outs Stephanie Taylor doubled to right center to drive in Stocker and Miller.

In the first game the Vikings were plagued by a rough fifth inning in which UWGB scored five times in route to a 7-4 win. CSU couldn't recover after two costly errors and a double by Jenny Pingel and a triple from Roznowski.

The Vikings went on top of the Phoenix in the first inning, as pitcher Jessica Miller drove in two runs on a double to right. CSU grabbed a run in the fifth inning off a Taylor single. Taylor also knocked in a run during the seventh on a groundout.

For the game Taylor went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Stocker went 4-for-4 with three runs in the loss. Stocker also stole second base in the first inning. It was her 34th steal of the year, tying her own record for steals in a season.
