Box Score

The Cleveland State softball team had a rough start to their Midwestern Collegiate Conference (MCC) play, dropping two games apiece at Butler and Wright State over the weekend. The Vikings had opportunities to win, but could not get hits with runners on base. In the doubleheader at Butler, the Vikes left a total of 13 runners on base.

In the first game sophomore Jessica Miller threw another solid game for CSU. She allowed just three hits, but a double in the sixth inning by Butler's Jeri Keller proved to be the game-winner as the Bulldogs won, 2-0. Butler's Melissa Benter, who surrendered three hits in throwing seven innings, stifled the CSU bats. Benter also got the save in the nightcap.

In the second game the Vikes had every opportunity to take control, but left nine runners on base in a 4-2 loss. In the fourth CSU had runners on first and second with no outs and failed to convert. They managed just one run in the sixth after loading the bases. On a brighter note CSU junior Jackie Miller went 3-for-6 in the two games.
