Erica McNew Named to NFCA All-Midwest Region First Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State senior Erica McNew (Canton, Ohio) has been named to the 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Midwest Region First Team, the association announced on Thursday.

McNew, the 2016 Horizon League Player of the Year, was a frist team pick as a first baseman.

It marks the second straight season a player from CSU has been named to the NFCA all-region team after Cynthia Woodard was a third team choice last season.

McNew put together one of the top offensive seasons in school history this year, posting a CSU single season record .474 batting average and tying the single season school record with 51 runs batted in. In addition, McNew hit 15 home runs and added 38 runs and nine doubles and posted a .874 slugging percentage and a .649 on-base percentage.

She also drew a CSU school record 67 walks this year, breaking the old mark by 24 walks, and was issued 27 intentional walks. McNew tied an NCAA single game record twice this year with four intentional walks in a game and reached base safely in 14 straight plate appearances at one point this year, tied for the second longest streak in NCAA history.

A four-time first team All-Horizon League selection, McNew finished her career with a CSU record .407 batting average and a school record 151 RBI. In addition, she also tied the school record with 141 career runs and ranked second in program history in hits (219) and home runs (51).
