Cleveland State controlled the early moments of the match, taking four of the contest's first five shots, including a couple of close tries by sophomore Lisa Conway. The momentum of the match swung heavily in favor of Youngstown State when a CSU foul set up a penalty kick for YSU's Keeley Rice at the 24:19 mark, who nailed the shot to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.

Youngstown State added an insurance goal at the 45:41 mark when Mariah Snyder found Natalie Brady breaking away from the CSU defense on the far left side. Brady made a couple of moves down the sideline and beat CSU goalie Ashley Kidwell to make it a 2-0 match.

YSU went up 3-0 at the 71:18 mark on a goal by leading scorer Jordan Gapczynski off an assist from Tessa Bookman.

"Í was disappointed with our play," head coach Derrek Falor said. "I thought after our win on Sunday (2-1 over IPFW) we would be able to come out and put another strong performance to get ready for the league tournament.

"Unfortunately we were out of sync all night and we allowed a couple of easy opportunities that they converted."

Freshman Heather Wagner scored the Vikings' lone goal in the 77th minute from 10 yards out on the right side off a pass from Conway. It was Wagner's third tally of the year.

"We put it together after the last 30 minutes, but by then we had dug too big of a hole," Falor said. "This was not the performance we needed heading into the tournament."

Conway had a team-high eight shots in addition to her assist. Sophomore Abbie Kakias added four.

Senior Andrea Loejos was honored before the match as part of the team's Senior Night ceremony.

The Vikings, seeded eighth in the Horizon League Championship, will attempt to play spoiler on Saturday, Oct. 28 at regular season champion UW-Milwaukee.
