MENTOR -- Youngstown State scored a pair of second half goals, the first just 21 seconds after Cleveland State had knotted the score at 1-1, to claim a 3-1 victory over CSU at Mentor High School.

"We just didn't get it done today. I don't know what else to say," head coach Derrek Falor said.

"From a competitive stand point, I thought that we played aggressively on offense, but we continue to allow too many good scoring chances and that more than offset our offensive gains today."

Youngstown State used a Katie Duracky goal just 16:19 into the match to take a 1-0 lead into the half.

The Vikings knotted the score at 1-1 when Amber Rasmussen took a pass from Samantha Casey and blasted a shot from 15 yards out into the left corner of the goal at 53:25. It was the first career goal for Rasmussen, who had previously assisted on CSU's two other goals this year.

"Amber had a nice match today and it was good to see her finally knock one in," Falor said.

The excitement of the goal last just 21 seconds when the Penguins came right back, scoring at the 53:46 mark to take a 2-1 lead on a Maddie Lawther goal.

"That was the turning point of the match," Falor said. "We were so excited that we had scored to tie the match, that we let up defensively and Youngstown State took advantage."

"We had done a nice job applying offensive pressure and creating scoring opportunities during the first eight minutes of the second half. When Amber (Rasmussen) scored, I thought that it would be the breakthrough that we needed. Unfortunately, the momentum swung the other way just 21 seconds later."

YSU would add an insurance marker in the 72nd minute when Tessa Brookman scored off a cross from Lawther.

The loss spoiled a strong offensive performance by the Vikings, who recorded a school-record 19 shots, 14 of which were on goal. Caitlin Bestard was solid in goal for the Penguins, recording 13 saves.

The loss dropped CSU's record to 0-15 on the year, 0-4 in Horizon League play. The Vikings play a pair of road matches this week, facing DePaul on Friday night (Oct. 22) and Butler on Sunday (Oct. 24).
