Goff Notches 97th Career Victory In Viking Loss

Cleveland, Ohio - The Vikings fell 32-10 in an exciting dual meet, which featured three separate overtime matches and two last second Cleveland State wins. Rashard Goff won his 97th match, while Antonio Nicholson and Lawrence Cavello each added wins.

The Vikings fell to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in league action, while Lock Haven improved to 6-7-1 overall and a 1-0 EWL record.

The dual meet started with a five-overtime nail biter at 125 pounds with Cleveland State's Jordan Keller squaring off against Lock Haven's Nick Hyatt.

Trailing by two going into the second period, Keller chose bottom position and quickly tied the match with a two point reversal, but was unable to keep control as Hyatt got a reversal of his own to take regain the lead.

With the second period closing, Keller scored on his second reversal of the period evening the score back at four. Keller started with top position and was able to keep control for the final period with the score remaining at four.

After four scoreless overtime periods, Hyatt was able to score two back points giving him a 6-4 advantage, which he would hold onto in the fifth overtime period.

After falling behind by three, Lawrence Cavello capitalized on a takedown and an escape knotting the score up with just over one minute remaining in the third period.

With just 15 seconds remaining, Cavello shot in and scored a match winning, two-point takedown, giving him a 5-3 win.

Antonio Nicholson was also able to score a last second takedown, securing a 4-3 win over Matt Fittery.

With a one-point advantage entering the third period, Fittery scored a two-point takedown, giving him a 3-1 lead with just over one minute remaining. Nicholson however would not be denied, tallying two escape points tying the score at three.

With 10 seconds left in the third period, Nicholson shot in and scored the winning single leg takedown, giving him a 4-3 decision.

"That was a big win for Antonio," head coach Ben Stehura said. "He is a kid that has been working hard and does everything you tell him to do."

In his first dual meet action of the season, Dan Castillo took advantage of his opportunity.

Castillo wasted no time scoring with a first period, two-point takedown. Castillo continued to control the pace, starting the second period in the bottom position, he quickly escaped giving him a 3-1 lead entering the third period.

Castillo however was unable to hold on to his lead and lost by two points in overtime.

Rashard Goff collected his 97th career victory with a 13-1 win over Gabriel Murtoff.

Goff started off the match strong, scoring on a single-leg takedown gaining control of the first period. Starting the second period in the bottom position, Goff was able to quickly escape and threw Murtoff to his back once again with another takedown giving him a five-point advantage.

Goff continued his second period onslaught with three near fall points and finished the second period with an 8-1 lead.

Goff stayed relentless in the final period adding five more points giving him a 13-1 major decision and his team leading 25 win.

The Vikings will be back in action Wednesday, January 28 when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA to take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse.
