Vikings Close Regular Season With Two Matches This Weekend; Host Michigan State for Senior Day on Friday

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State wrestling team closes the regular season with two matches this week. The Vikings start the weekend by hosting Michigan State on Friday (Feb. 20) at 7:00 pm for Senior Day in Woodling Gym.

CSU closes the regular season on Sunday (Feb. 22) when the Vikings travel to EWL foe Bloomsburg for a 2:00 pm match.

Friday's match against Michigan State will be Senior Night with CSU's six seniors - Chas Busz, Mike Carlone, Xavier Dye, Alfredo Gray, Riley Shaw and Sam Wheeler - being honored in a pre-match ceremony.

In addition, it will be Alumni Night with the program hosting a social in Mather Mansion after the match.

The Vikings are 7-7 this season and 3-2 in EWL duals, while Michigan State is 1-14 overall. Bloomsburg is 1-17 overall and 0-5 in the EWL.

CSU is coming off a pair of losses over the weekend, falling to Ohio and at Gardner-Webb. Shaw and Wheeler won both of their matches with earning a 17-1 tech fall and a 10-3 decision. Wheeler posted a pair of 6-4 wins, including a sudden victory over 12th-ranked Phil Wellington of Ohio.

Evan Cheek earned a win at 133 pounds against Ohio, while Carlone picked up CSU's other win against GWU.

Shaw and Wheeler continue to lead the Vikings this year. Shaw, ranked 18th in the country at heavyweight, is 23-6 this year, including 12-1 in duals and 4-1 in EWL matches. He leads the team with five tech falls this year and has 95 career wins.

Wheeler leads the team with 24 wins, going 24-8 overall and 11-2 in duals. He is also 4-1 in EWL contests. Nick Montgomery is 13-11 at 149 pounds this year and leads the team with six falls.

The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday (March 5) when CSU competes in the EWL Championship in Lock Haven, Pa.
