CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State wrestling team continues its EWL schedule when the Vikings travel to Lock Haven on Sunday (Jan. 31) for a 1:00 pm dual.
The Vikings are 6-5 overall this season and 2-2 in the EWL after splitting a pair of matches last week. Lock Haven is 6-7 overall and 1-1 in the league and will travel to Clarion for an EWL dual on Friday night before hosting CSU.
Last Friday (Jan. 22), the Vikings traveled to Clarion and earned a 23-12 win as CSU won six of the first seven matches to take a lead. Included in the total was a pin at 149 pounds by Nick Montgomery in 3:15.
Montgomery is tied for the team lead with Gabe Stark (174 pounds) with four falls.
Junior 125-pounder John Martin and senior 197-pounder Sam Wheeler earned major decisions in the win at Clarion, while Alfredo Gray (133), John Vaughn (157) and Riley Shaw (285) also tallied wins.
Two days after the win at Clarion, the Vikings returned home but fell to Rider, 21-12. Martin and Shaw registered their second wins of the weekend, while Mike Carlone (141) and Stark also picked up victories.
Wheeler leads the team with 19 wins, while Shaw, who is ranked 15th in the nation, is close behind with 18, including a 9-1 mark in duals. Both grapplers are also 3-1 in EWL matches.
CSU is back in action next Saturday (Feb. 6) when the Vikings compete at the Edinboro Open with action slated to begin at 9:00 am. It is the final Open event of the season as the Vikings will close February with three duals leading up to the EWL Championship on March 5 at Lock Haven.
