Wrestling Hosts Edinboro To Begin EWL Slate

The Cleveland State wrestling team finishes its four-meet home stand this Saturday (Dec. 19) when they welcome EWL foe Edinboro to Woodling Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.

The Vikings enter the meet at 4-3 with three wins coming at the Ohio Duals and another over John Carroll, though the team has not wrestled in a dual since the Nov. 24 thriller vs. Ohio State. Edinboro enters Saturday also 4-3, though 2-0 in EWL wrestling. The Vikings are coming off action in their annual CSU Open in which three Cleveland State wrestlers placed in the top-five of their weight classes. Edinboro, despite losing multiple ranked wrestlers from its recent years, won its fifth straight PSAC Championship on Dec. 5. The Fighting Scots defeated the Vikings in last season's dual, 41-3.

The meet with Edinboro will be the Vikings final action in 2015 as the team will take two weeks off before taking part in the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee to begin 2016 (Jan. 1 and 2).

EWL IS HERE:
This will be the first EWL meet of the season for the Vikings. Following the Southern Scuffle in January, the team will then face four-straight league opponents before a final EWL dual on February 21 at Bloomsburg, giving the team six total EWL opportunities.

SHAW WATCH:
Riley Shaw remains undefeated (12-0) with his most recent win coming over a ranked opponent against Ohio State. Shaw currently sits at 84 wins, just 16 from 100 total for his career.

MOVING ON UP:
Shaw, previously ranked No. 10 according to Intermat.com and No. 8 on TheOpenMat.com, has now moved up in both rankings, now sitting at No. 8 on Intermat's rankings and No. 7 according to TheOpenMat.

HOME SLATE WINDING DOWN:
Following the meet with Edinboro, the Vikings will have just three more home duals this season, vs. George Mason (Jan. 16), Rider (Jan. 24) and Michigan State (Feb. 19).

RECORD AWARENESS:
At the Ohio Duals, the Vikings earned a 54-0 win over Toledo NCWA, a non-NCAA affiliated team. While the wins count for CSU as far as total overall wins and personal wins, the wins do NOT count toward NCAA statistics, therefore, some records for CSU may be one win off.
