Wrestling Finishes Third At Ohio Duals

GENEVA, Ohio - The Cleveland State wrestling team finished third at the inaugural Ohio Duals at Spire Institute on Saturday.

The team finished 3-1 on the day, improving its dual record to 4-1 for the year. The Vikings captured wins over Toledo (54-0), Baldwin Wallace (27-12) and Tiffin (28-9). CSU narrowly missed the title match, falling in a close bout with Lake Erie in the second round, 18-17. Heading to the consolation bracket, the Vikings took care of business over their next two matches, allowing them to claim third place.

Nick Montgomery (149, 3-0), Sam Wheeler (197, 4-0) and No. 8 Riley Shaw (HWT, 4-0) all went undefeated for the green and white. Shaw's wins improve him to an impressive 10-0 on the year while Wheeler and Montgomery are not far behind at 10-1 and 9-1, respectively.

Nick Derosa (125), Alfredo Gray (133), Mike Kostandaras (133), Mike Carlone (141), RJ Labeef (149), John Vaughn (157), Nathan Wynkoop (165), Gabe Stark (174) and Jacob Worthington (184) all had at least one win apiece. Labeef and Worthington entered the lineup for the first time this season.

The Vikings will be back in action this Friday (Nov. 20) at home against Eastern Michigan at 7:00 p.m. That match will take place at the Wolstein Center. Following EMU, CSU will host Ohio State on Tuesday (Nov. 24) at Woodling Gym at 7:00 p.m.
