Jones Earns Final League Swimming Honor

Feb. 10, 2004

CLEVELAND - Senior diver Chris Jones was named the Horizon League's Swimmer of the Week after leading the Vikings to a pair of wins over UIC and Valparaiso on Saturday, the league office announced today. Jones becomes the fourth different Viking to earn the league honor this season, joining Warren Vickers, Pieter Pelser and Luke Wilkens.

Jones won three of the four diving events for the Vikings, who went 2-1 on the weekend. In Saturday's win over UIC and Valparaiso, Jones scored 283.70 on 1m, then recorded a score of 305.32 on 3m. In Friday night's loss at Notre Dame, he scored 280.73 on 1m to collect his third win of the weekend.

Vickers was twice honored by the league this season, while Pelser and Wilkens have each been recognized once. The five honors won by Cleveland State are tops in the league, with UW-Milwaukee and Wright State receiving the award three times each.

This is the final time the league will award its weekly honor heading into the Horizon League Championships, as all teams on the men's side have completed dual meet competition. UIC will host the annual league championships on Feb. 25 through Feb. 28 in Chicago.
